7 Things That Only Make Sense If You Live in Tel Aviv

1. You have to constantly watch your surroundings to make sure you don’t get hit by an electric bike.

Because you never know if an electric bike rider will accidentally clip you if you’re not looking. Don’t take any chances by walking in the bike lane.

2. You pay way more for a drink at a bar than you should.

38 shekels for a glass of wine out of a bottle that probably cost 70 shekels? No problem, take my credit card.

3. You live in a tiny apartment with roommates but still live paycheck to paycheck.

Bottom line: Rent in this city is ridiculously expensive. Nothing unusual about partnering up and paying the price to live in the center of the city.

4. The average Israeli exudes model-type attractiveness.

Let’s face it, some of the men and women in Tel Aviv are so incredibly good-looking, you’ve become immune to seeing models walk past you every day.

5. You only have time to run errands between Friday morning and afternoon.

Most people work during the week, so the weekend is the time to get all your shopping done. Problem is: Malls, public transportation and supermarkets close on Friday afternoon and reopen Saturday night, so most of us have to cram all our errands in on Friday morning.

6. People in your office are wearing flip-flops.

For people who have worked abroad, this probably came as a shock. Tel Aviv is filled with startups, where dress codes aren’t enforced, so it’s not unusual for people to dress like they just came from the beach.

7. Every night looks like the weekend.

No matter what day of the week it is, all the bars, cafes and restaurants are filled with people having a good time. Sometimes you have to wonder how people get up for work the next day!
