One of the coolest things about Hebrew is its root system. Almost every word in the language is built on a root – usually three (sometimes four) letters – that act like the word’s DNA. These roots can branch out into tons of different words, all connected by a shared core meaning.
Sometimes you can spot the connection right away and sometimes it’s more subtle, but once you see it – it’s like uncovering a hidden thread.
Take the word תהליך (tah-ha-leech), for example, meaning process. You hear this word a lot these days, as everyone seems to be “in a process” of some sort. But here’s the beautiful part: תהליך comes from the root ה.ל.כ, which is also the root of the verb ללכת (lah-leh-cheht) to walk.
So at its core, a process isn’t just an abstract phase – it’s made of steps, one foot in front of the other. It’s a quiet reminder that healing, too, isn’t a leap. It’s a walk.
